2nd birthday fun

This year I really agonized about whether to do a big second birthday party for Liam.  He is still not really at the age where he "got" that it was his birthday.  And I felt guilty in some ways because with work lately and with our house being on the market, I wanted to make sure that if we did something it would be for him and not to fulfill my neurotic tendencies to give him what I think he wants!  In the end we opted to have a very low key birthday.

Each morning when Liam wakes up, I hold him in his rocking chair while he drinks his milk and cuddles against me. On his birthday I told him the story of his birth and how much we love him. Afterwards we went downstairs and opened his gift from his "Auntie" Stephanie: An awesome "Mr. Pirate Potato Head"! Liam loves playing with Mr. Potato head at speech therapy so he was happy to have his own.

Liam has finally mastered the "art" of opening gifts without our assistance.

Liam had his 2 year well child visit, which included two shots!  What a way to spend your birthday.  I must have completed blocked out that he needed vaccinations at this appointment.  But he was super brave and earned a sucker as a result.

I also took cupcakes to school.  I get the impression Liam didn't know that the fuss was for him, but he was all too happy to have the attention of the singing and the sugar of course!  I always griped growing up because my birthday was so close to Christmas that we were never in school.  Which meant no class party!  So I want Liam to have a little pomp and circumstance the actual day of his birth.

Liam is all about hats at this age!

His love for cake is a total change from his first birthday when we couldn't get him to even sample his cake!
This past weekend my parents were in town and we had a mini birthday party with cake.  And next week Eric's family will be in town so we will have a second mini party!  Liam is going to start thinking that his birthday lasts several weeks long with the sporadic gifts he has been getting from us, family and friends!
