It is really a neat experience to watch Sesame Street with Liam. So many of the clips that they show today were the same ones that Eric and I grew up with. Like so many children, Liam is enamored with the characters, especially Elmo. I will say, some of the new characters have thrown me for a definite loop. But what can I say? I am old school.
Interestingly enough, I just read an article that Sesame Street is now coming to Pakistan, courtsey of the American government. In a $20 million remake, the setting will be moved from the streets of New York to a village in Pakistan with a roadside tea and snacks stall, and residents hanging out on their verandas. Financing for the show will come from U.S. Aid, the economic assistance arm of the U.S. government. I think the hope is that Pakistani children will be encouraged to take an active role in learning which will prevent a descent into religious conservatism.
Regardless of how you feel about Sesame Street, it is definitely a special treat for the three of us to sit together as a family and watch the same clips that we cherished growing up. Liam's favorite clip is one that I distinctly remember from childhood. I hope you take a moment to walk down memory lane!
